Australia’s Local Government sector is in a state of flux.
Unprecedented change in recent years has brought disruption and instability to organisations and staff across the sector. As our communities and social structures grow in complexity, so too, does the role of Local Government. In order to remain effective and relevant, councils and their leaders must learn to innovate how they think and operate. Whilst the future for local government holds many challenges, there is also a wealth of opportunities for councils to lead the way through effective, innovative leadership and unified vision.
Leading through Change will explore some of the key challenges facing councils and how innovative leadership can help to overcome them. The conference will assist councils to explore the mindsets and behaviours that underpin success during periods of instability, from the role and responsibilities of leadership through to everyday operations and service delivery.
As the management education provider of choice for the local government sector, ASAM has provided leadership training to hundreds of local government managers, representing 97 councils Australia-wide since 2009.
This critical networking opportunity is often a highlight of the event for many participants offering a more relaxed social setting to connect with peers from across the country, forge powerful alliances and tap into new ideas.
The conference will be facilitated by the National Director of GPS Learning, Antony Maxwell. Antony is an expert Leadership Education consultant, with extensive experience working with leadership teams across Australia’s local government sector.
Where will the event take place
In partnership with
CR Samantha Ratnam
Thursday 26th &
Friday 27th October 2017
Delegates will benefit from insights and ideas of experts both inside and outside of the sector as well as working collaboratively with their peers.
Amalgamations, budget restrictions and increasing community involvement mean that staff, at all levels, are constantly under pressure, spending their time ‘putting out fires’ rather than focusing on long term improvement. This conference represents an opportunity for council staff to step away from everyday demands and reflect upon their own leadership practice, with an eye to sustainable sector wide change.
Designed to encourage collaboration, the conference will create a ‘think tank’ type environment for the sector to co-create solutions to common obstacles. Emphasis will be placed upon evidence based approaches, and discussion will be built around real situations with a strong focus on innovative outcomes.
